]]> The video work titled “Abiding (Proba Wody)” – (Trial by Water) is by Monika Weiss. Aneta Szylak writes, “Monika Weiss combines traditional techniques such as drawing with performance, video and sound installations. The perpetual aspect of her performances, their slowness, repetitiveness are very much experience oriented. Abiding (Proba Wody), (1999-2000) deals with ritual immersion and separates the performing subject from her usual surroundings. Many of her often-risky performances with immersions in different liquids provide sensory deprivation and have almost meditative aspects. [Aneta Szylak in "You Won't Feel A Thing: On Panic, Obsession, Rituality and Anesthesia", Kunsthaus Dresden, Germany, 2007].

Carmon Colangelo | O Land O | Bruno David Gallery

]]> Carmon Colangelo, Dean of the Sam Fox School of Design and Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis, explores the homogenization of American life in a sequence of two-sided prints, inspired by a visit to Orlando Florida. “O Land O” is a playful pastiche and amalgamation of abstract maps, highways, hotels and Disneyesque images of city life. The prints were created at  at Flying Horse Editions in Orlando.

Veiled Prophet Parade, 2011

]]> The spectacular 125 unit Veiled Prophet Parade played to an enthusiastic crowd in downtown St. Louis on Saturday July 2nd.  This fast paced 10-minute video summary (from StLouisan.com) covers almost all of it.

This year’s VP Parade was dedicated to artist William Griffin. St. Louis City Mayor Francis Slay and several other mayors were on hand at the opening ceremonies.

Following the national anthem, the 125 unit parade began and the large crowd enjoyed floats. helium balloons, marching bands and lots of music. Several of the floats featured dancing by the Muny Kids, under the direction of choreographer Janice Hawk. “A Night Out” was the theme of this year’s parade and it stirred up memories from the 1950′s and 1960′s.

The Art Works summer Open House is Friday, July 1, 2011. Talented teens are offering their artwork for sale from 11 to 1:30pm at Ranken Technical College: Mary Ann Lee Building, 1313 N. Newstead. Handmade prints, superhero theme postcards, and sculptures made of recycled bicycle parts, stools and lots more. After visiting StLArtWorks this afternoon I know what I’m going to do with that old antique Huffy bicycle which has been parked in the garage this past year. StLArtWorks

“The Figure Now” at Fontbonne University Fine Arts Gallery

]]> New York artist  Michael Grimaldi discusses “The Figure Now | Exhibition 2011,” a juried exhibition of figure drawings at Fontbonne University Fine Arts Gallery. This  juried exhibition of contemporary figure drawing was curated by Grimaldi and focuses on emerging as well as established artists worldwide. Most of the works are monochromatic, dry media on paper.

Art Missing at an Exhibition | Christina Shmigel “This City, Daily Rising”

]]> The exhibition “This City, Daily Rising” opened twice at the Bruno David Gallery. For the first opening, Christina Shmigel had only three days to improvise the “look and feel” of the full exhibiton because some of the artwork, being shipped from her home in Shanghai China, was  temporarily detained by U. S. Customs. In this video, both Bruno David and Shmigel discuss the challenging situation.
