St. Louisans Go Salmon Fishing In Lake Michigan, Part 1

Salmon fishing in Lake Michigan is nothing new for Brian Barker. Every summer for the past fifteen years he’s been traveling from St. Louis to Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and bringing back a cooler full of salmon. The last weekend in July, Bostonian Joe Briere, joined Barker and two St. Louisans, Jim Lieber and me, for an early Saturday morning fishing trip several miles out on the lake.
Although we had great fun and the four of us boxed two fish apiece, this was nothing like the year 2007, when each fisherman in Barker’s group caught the limit of five fish each–all within an hour or so of sunrise.
Much of the work on the boat, including the rigging of sixteen fishing lines, is done by Randy Even (http://u-charters.com) owner of the boat “Sorry Charlie.” –Dickson Beall
